The Naperville Public Library is excited to present you with this innovative search tool Encore which combines the traditional library catalog with qualities of today’s popular Search Engines. This tool provides new ways to find library materials. Whether you are looking for books, DVDs, audio books, ebooks, magazine articles, or any other materials, Encore will help you search in an easy, fast, and effective manner. Encore not only searches what is housed in the library, but also searches full articles from databases to which the library subscribes.

• (1) SEARCH: Encore does keyword searches in the catalog and the online databases. The search results from the catalog are sorted by relevance. You can click between Catalog and Articles for search resources.


A very creative and useful characteristic that Encore offers to its users is the ‘Did you Mean…?’ feature. If something in your search is misspelled or is an incorrect word, Encore will search the library databases to find the closest match to your terms.
For example: If a patron enters in the following: ‘Tan Shelter’, Encore will return with ‘Did You Mean….Tax Shelter’.

• (2) CLASSIC CATALOG: This option will bring you to the Library Catalog's Advanced Search Screen to help further narrow your search criteria.
• (3) REFINE BY: These tools will allow you to refine your search results by limiting by subject, title, format, language, date and more.
• (4) IMAGES: Image results for subject area.
• (5) EXPLORE: Offers more resources that may provide additional information about the specific material.
• (6) REFINE BY TAG: Tag clouds are built from subject headings. The larger the font, the more frequent a tag appears.
• (7) POPULAR CHOICES: This feature offers popular titles within a subject area, based on the number of copies the Library owns.
• (8) ARTICLES AND MORE: Article resources that may be searched for more information on subject area.
