Staff Bill of Rights
The staff members of the Naperville Public Library are its internal patrons. They
cheerfully serve the public in a workplace that values cooperation, communication,
courtesy, empowerment, equal treatment, recognition, support, fairness and mutual respect.
- Staff members are entitled to clean, safe and comfortable working
conditions, and equipment in good working order.
- Staff members are entitled to timely, appropriate training and
continuing educational opportunities for improved public service.
- Staff members are entitled to an appropriate amount of empowerment in
order to facilitate patrons' requests.
- Staff members are entitled to be treated with courtesy, respect and
fairness by all co-workers and patrons.
- Staff members are entitled to be heard, with timely responses to comments, ideas,
complaints, questions, concerns and suggestions directed to co-workers.
- Staff members are entitled to be trained to respond to conditions such
as weather, fire and medical emergencies, and aggressive behavior.
- Staff members have a right to expect all co-workers to behave in a
responsible manner and be accountable for their work.
- Staff members are entitled to a work environment built on respect,
support and recognition for both individual and group accomplishments.
- Staff members are entitled to contribute their ideas, opinions, questions and suggestions
in a supportive environment that values teamwork, sharing and initiative.
- Staff members are entitled to fair compensation for work done toward
achievement of library tasks and goals.
- Staff members are entitled to open communication within the organization, and to
be kept apprised of new policies and developments within the library system.
- Staff members are entitled to equal treatment regardless of race,
ethnicity, age, disability, religion, gender, sexual orientation or politics.
