Donna Dziedzic joined the Naperville Public Library as its Executive Director in May of 1996.
Donna Dziedzic has broad experience in the public and private sectors.
She was the principal of Organization Transition Solution, consulting with associations, small businesses, municipalities,
and libraries in organizational and staff development goals. She owned a successful allied health practice and served as
vice-president of a human development firm. Dziedzic has held leadership positions at the Illinois Library Association,
the American Library Association, the New York Public Library, the New Jersey State Library, and the Chicago Public Library.
In July of 2008, Dziedzic began her term as President of the Illinois Library Association. Since 1896, the Illinois
Library Association (ILA) has been the voice for Illinois libraries and the millions who depend on them. Its membership
is made up of public, academic, school, and special libraries as well as librarians, library assistants, trustees,
students, and library vendors. It is a not-for-profit education organization with over 3,000 members.
Dziedzic has served twice on the Council of the American Library Association. Council is the governing body of
this national association, delegating to ALA divisions the policy and authority to carry out programs and activities
throughout the United States. An active member of ALA, she is past president of the Association of Specialized and
Cooperative Library Agencies, a division of ALA. In l997, she receives ASCLA’s highest honor, the Service Award.
With the Office of Accreditation, she was a site panel member and has assessed numerous library schools’ credentials.
In June of 2004, she received a Distinguished Alumni award from the University of Illinois Graduate School of
Library and Information Science. She has served as President of the University of Illinois’ Graduate School of
Library and Information Science Alumni Association and now serves on its Campaign Advisory Committee.
In 2005, Dziedzic was an invited speaker at “The Round Table on Freedom of Speech and Press” held at Great Britain’s
Oxford University.
In between gardening and tennis, Dziedzic participates in many local civic activities and serves on the Board of
Directors of the Naperville Development Partnership and Naperville Responds. She is a former board member of the
Naperville Area Humane Society. She is also a member of the Naperville Rotary, the Naperville League of Women Voters,
and the World Future Society.
Dziedzic earned an AB from Salve Regina University, Newport, Rhode Island and a master’s degree in Library and
Information Science (MSLIS) from the University of Illinois, Urbana.
