Book Groups Season Starts with an Analysis of the Supreme Court,
a Kafka Classic and English Mystery
The Supreme Court, a charming mystery set in London, and a Chris Bohgalian novel are the focus of the selections that will be discussed by the Naperville Public Library’s book clubs in May.

Pageturners, an adult book group that primarily reads non-fiction, meets the second Tuesday of each month. In September, they will read “Supreme Conflict” by Jan Crawford Greenburg. A correspondent for ABC News, Greenburg is a long-time observer of the Supreme Court and uses all of her skills to provide a readable analysis of our highest court. The group will discuss “Supreme Conflict” on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m. in the Community Room, Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave. Kathy Carrus is the facilitator.

“The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka is the featured reading of the Great Books Reading and Discussion Group for September. This adult book group follows the Great Books discussion format. The group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Program Room, Naper Boulevard Library, 2035 S. Naper Blvd. Jack Hatfield is the facilitator. This group is sponsored in memory of Mary (Daphne) Dragula by her family and friends.

New Horizons Book Club begins its fall season in a new location. On Thursday, Sept. 18 the group will discuss “Maisie Dobbs” by Jacqueline Winspear beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Quiet Study Room, Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave. Facilitating this group is Julie Phend. A historical mystery set in the period after World War I, this novel explores the career of Maisie Dobbs, female private investigator. A “gentle read” with interesting plot and characters without violence and gunplay, this series, set in London, is as brisk as a cup of tea.

“The Double Bind” by Chris Bohjalian is September choice for From Cover to Cover, an evening adult book group that reads current and classic fiction. This group meets the third Thursday of each month. In September they will meet on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in Community Room, Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave. “Double Bind” combines mystery with a nuanced study of the human psyche and the struggle to survive over pain.
